Daniel was born 25 December 1921. He is the second child and second male born to Catrherine McDermott and Michael Burns.

Daniel met and married Frances Gorman on 28 July 1948 in Chicago, Illinois. Together, they had 9 children - 6 boys and 3 girls: Michael, Catherine, John, Daniel, Mary Helen, Patrick, Margaret, James and Christopher.

Daniel died on 19 January 1969 in Chicago, Illinois. He was buried at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Chicago Ridge, Cook, Illinois on 21 January 1969.
