Tracing the McDermott Family Line

The McDermott Family Line consists of the McDermoitts, the Fitzpatricks, the McHughs, and the Hannons. There is not much about the McDermotts in Ireland with the exception of a marriage and a birth. Much of it starts in England.

Together, they had 5 children, but only one is known for sure, their son, Michael. Michael was born 4 Oct 1855 in County Mayo, Ireland. The next time we see young Michael, he is in Hapton, Burnley, Lancashire, England in the 1881 census.

He meets and marries Mary Fitzpatrick on 25 April 1881 at the Catholic Chapel in Enfield, Blackburn, Lancashire, England. Somewhere around 1882, both Michael and Mary end up in Chicago. I have yet to locate the ship they came over on to the United States or from what port the departed from. Their firstborn, John Aloysius was born in Chicago on 23 May 1882.

The next time we see Michael and Mary, it is in the 1900 census. By this time, they have had 11 children: John Aloysius, Sarah (Sadie), Joseph, Catherine, Margaret Mary (Mae), Francis, Agnes, Bridget (Sister Monica), Leo, Rose Veronica, Bernard Anthony. Uncle Bert was born in 1904.

Michael died 24 March 1926 from organic heart disease.
