The beginning of the Fitzpatricks are rather elusive, as elusive as the McDermotts. It is told that the father of John Fitzpatrick is Patrick Fitzpatrick. Patrick was from Murroogh, Galway, Connacht, Ireland and married a woman named Mary. Nothing is known about Patrick and Mary's surname is unknown. However, Mary died 1 Jun 1873 in Haslingden, Lancashire, England.
John was born in 1821. John was not in the 1851 census, but is first seen in the 1861 census. John married Sarah Hannon on 11 Jul 1853 in Haslingden, Lancashire, England in The Parochial Chapel.
The 1871 census indicates that John was from Galway, but no other information. John died in 1879 in Haslingden, Lancashire, England.
Sarah is the daughter of Murty Hannon and a woman named Margaret - surname unknown. Murty is not a common name. It is generally a nickname for Murtaugh, Mortimer, or Martin. Sarah was born in 1831 in County Mayo, Ireland. She died on 19 Jun 1895 in Burnley, Lancashire, England.
Together John and Sarah had 6 children: Thomas, Patrick, Mary, James, Katherine, and John. Mary was born 8 Mar 1858 in Bery Edge, Durham, England. By the 1881 census, Thomas and Patrick are on their own, I assume.
Mary met and married Michael McDermott on 25 Apr 1881 at St. Mary's Catholic Chapel Enfield, Clayton le Moors, Lancashire, England.
